About the office and the measures offered by the Debtors' Ombudsman
The Debtors' Ombudsman represents the interests of debtors and offers them support if applicable. The Debtors' Ombudsman offers free assistance to individuals who have serious difficulties meeting their financial obligations in order to find a balance between financial capacities and financial obligations. If you do not speak English or Icelandic, the Debtors' Ombudsman will provide an interpreter. The applicant will have to order an interpreter but the Debtors' Ombudsman will cover the costs for this service.
You can ask for advice or the support of the Debtors' Ombudsman by visiting his office at Kringlan 1- 103 Reykjavík, between 9:00 and 15:00 between Monday and Friday. You can also call 512 6600 or the toll-free number 800 6600, between 13:00 and 15:00 between Monday and Friday.
